Downloadable Coffee

January 29th, 2007 by Adam Nielson TCDVideo

Neither my producer, Adam Nielson, nor I drink too much coffee, and I’ll spare you the sob story about how I work twenty-billion hours a day, but lets just say my first job starts at four am. Fortunately for me, download squad could have a solution to my non-coffee drinking energy seeking fix. The folks at anabubula dot com have a “Coffee replacement,” site. Rather than the steaming cup of joe most people expect, the site features a 20 minute Mp3 that stimulates the listener’s brain allegedly the same way a cup of coffee does. The audio clip starts with nature sounds as a base, then gradually introduces rapidly repeating beats into the background.

The site says each of these beats triggers an electrical impulse within the brain, and after hearing the entire track, listeners should feel a jolt of energy, or caffeine high. Adam, our newest producer here at Tech Check Daily, gave the virtual mug a sip,… and while he says he wasn’t entirely convinced, but he did get enough energy to finish writing this story. As for me, I’ll wait to give it a try until there is a virtual doughnut to go with it.

Meanwhile, for those who actually drink the stuff, Ubergizmo turned us on to a unique new coffee mug. As a general rule, anything that has a USB plug impresses us, and we’d normally expect a USB-powered coffee warmer, but this cup is a tad bit different. If you look at the bottom, you are seeing a red LED, just like you’d see in a regular mouse. Apparently you can mouse around with the coffee cup, and when you push toward the table, it registers a click. Of course, such a contraption is a neat feat, but is probably more problematic than anything. We don’t know about you, but we’d rather keep our awesome looking gucci suits in perfect condition, rather than splattered with coffee after we forget our mug is still plugged in.
