Bittorrent Drama

January 18th, 2007 by Randall Bennett Story

Users trying to log on to bittorrent mainstay ISO hunt may be a bit disappointed. The popular BitTorrent tracker had it’s servers yanked by it’s primary ISP. A Rep from ISOhunt says the action is most likely fallout from a recent MPAA lawsuit regarding their content. All is not lost yet in the fight, or rather whack a mole game, of killing bittorrent trackers. Techs for the site expect to be back as soon as today… and according to ISOhunt, They plan to keep their servers in the US, and stand by the philosophy that BitTorrent was created for legitimate distribution of large media files.

BitTorrent’s most notorious bad boys, The Pirate Bay, who openly flaunt their opposition to copyright, operate under Swedish law with relative immunity. However, a May 2006 raid by Swedish police may have the pirates shoving off to sea. The Pirate Bay is currently in negotiations to purchase Sealand; a World-War-Two fort just far enough off the coast of England to lie in international waters. The British-Built fort is considered by many to be it’s own principality, and therefore subject to it’s own laws. The Pirates feel locating their servers at Sealand is the best way to avoid future trouble with the authorities. The Pirate Bay is accepting donations to finance the deal, and offering a Sealand citizenship to all who contribute. I’m not really interested in donating, but maybe one of you folks who get a sealand passport can come give me a visit back across the pond.
